Solar Weekend Festival

Tunnelvision Stage

As part of a self-contained project for Solar Weekend Festival in the Netherlands, we designed and built a stage with our bare hands.

In early 2024 we responded to an open call by Solar Weekend festival. The festival was looking for creatives to add something to their already impressive roster of stages, artists and installations. As part of the Dreadlabs music division, me (Tom) and a group of friends was looking for a way to represent local DJ talent. We decided to come up with a stage concept that would be impressive enough to attract customers, regardless of whether famous artists would be performing there or not.

Our concept was called Tunnelvision. Inside of a 20 meters long tent, 10 large plexiglass panels would be hung from the ceiling. These panels would be lit up from the top down through an LED strip. Each individual panel would have an illustration carved out of the plastic. Because the scratches diffuse the light, these illustrations would light up when activated.

To mimic the effect of driving through a tunnel I designed light programmes that would swiftly pass from the back to the stage all the way to the front. This tunnel effect would lead visitors to the back of the tent where our local talents would play their music.
